We’ve had the great opportunity to talk to Georg Platzer, Market Development Manager and Store Manager for IKEA Philippines. We talk about how he has been leading the process of opening the first IKEA store in the Philippines. We discuss how it is important to find companies and suppliers to align values with, through their code of conduct, IWAY. We also talk about IKEA’s values, and their long history with CSR and sustainability, and how they are working with the SDGs as well as circular business models, using waste and recycled materials in production. We also dive into the topic of social entrepreneurs in the Philippines, with the NGO Rags2Riches.
Listen in on this podcast to hear all about the different sustainability initiatives. Here’s a snippet of what we talked about:
“We are sealing a deal, we step on the path together, and then we are growing together. That’s of course part of developing and getting better every day. We are meeting on eye-level, so it’s like a partnership. It’s not like we dictate them on what they have to do. That’s not the way, it’s helping them to live up to the IWAY and to our code of conduct. Because we want to work with them and we believe in their potential. They honor it and they show respect and they really follow the agreed directions.”
