DMW Asec. Pampolina Discusses Latest Policy Updates and Programs for Filipino Seafarers— Joint Maritime Committee Meeting for June

On 27 June 2024, NordCham Philippines co-hosted the Joint Maritime Committee Meeting for June at the German Club Manila in Makati City. The event featured Assistant Secretary Jerome Pampolina of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), who provided valuable insights into the plans and programs of the DMW for Filipino seafarers and updated the audience on recent policy developments in the maritime industry.

Assistant Secretary Pampolina began his presentation by highlighting the crucial role and mandate of the DMW, the primary agency dedicated to protecting the rights and promoting the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). He emphasized the agency's responsibilities, which include formulating, planning, coordinating, promoting, administering, and implementing systems for regulating, managing, and monitoring overseas employment and the reintegration of OFWs. He also underscored the importance of empowering and protecting migrant workers through skill development and continuous training.

Among the key points discussed were the DMW's ten-point agenda, strategies for the deployment of Filipino seafarers, the establishment of a policy framework for sea-based OFW concerns, and updates on various programs designed to support Filipino seafarers.
