On 29 August 2024, the Joint Maritime Committee (JMC) gathered at the German Club Manila for a pivotal meeting. We are honored to have this month’s speaker, Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan, who provided an insightful presentation on the latest developments and regulatory updates within the maritime sector. 

Administrator Malaluan addressed several crucial topics impacting the maritime industry, offering a comprehensive analysis of recent developments and regulatory changes. Her presentation covered the following key areas: 

  • The 10-Point Agenda: This initiative outlines strategic priorities aimed at addressing key challenges and enhancing the maritime sector’s overall efficiency and effectiveness. 

  • MARINA’s 1st Semester Accomplishments: She highlighted significant achievements and progress made by MARINA in the first half of the year, showcasing the agency’s commitment to advancing industry standards and operations. 

  • Maritime Industry Development Plan 2028: This long-term plan focuses on the strategic vision for the maritime sector’s growth and modernization over the next several years, emphasizing sustainable development and innovation. 

  • Emerging Investment Opportunities: Malaluan discussed new and potential investment avenues within the maritime industry, underscoring opportunities for stakeholders to contribute to and benefit from the sector’s expansion and modernization. 

These discussions provided valuable insights into the current state and future direction of the maritime industry, sparking engaging dialogue among attendees. Following her presentation, a Q&A session allowed participants from various sectors to engage directly with Administrator Malaluan, addressing their specific concerns and queries.
