February JMC Meeting Explores Advancements in Maritime Training and Technology
The February Joint Maritime Committee (JMC) Meeting, held on 27 February 2025 at the German Club Manila, brought together industry leaders for an insightful discussion on new technologies and alternative fuels training requirements in maritime education. The session featured distinguished speakers Ms. Karen Avelino, President of the Philippine Association of Maritime Training Centers (PAMTC), and C/E Alfredo Haboc, Senior Advisor/Consultant at the Philippine Center for Advanced Maritime Simulation and Training.
Key discussions revolved around the review of STCW requirements, ensuring compliance with global standards, and the integration of new technologies and alternative fuels in maritime training. Updates on IMO model courses and a comprehensive review of the STCW Convention were also presented, providing valuable insights into the evolving landscape of the industry. The speakers emphasized the importance of adapting training programs to industry advancements and outlined the next steps for implementation to enhance maritime education and workforce readiness.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where attendees had the opportunity to exchange insights and clarify key points with the speakers.
