Sustainability Committee Meeting for March Highlights Green Building and Carbon Reduction

SCM March

On 26 March 2025, the Sustainability Committee Meeting gathered industry leaders, sustainability professionals, and business representatives to discuss Green Building and Carbon Reduction. Hosted at CGI Philippines, One World Square, McKinley Hill, Taguig, the session was organized in partnership with Asiance Sdn Bhd and TERAO Asia to explore how businesses can adopt sustainable building practices that enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

Christine De Padua, Business Development Manager at Asiance Sdn Bhd, introduced Gaspard Lemoine-Scelles, APAC Business Development Director of TERAO Asia, who provided in-depth insights into the critical role of green buildings in sustainability. He discussed how green buildings integrate sustainable design, construction, and operational practices to minimize environmental impact while maximizing energy efficiency.

Gaspard outlined the fundamentals and benefits of green buildings, emphasizing their contribution to lower energy consumption, reduced operational costs, improved indoor environmental quality, and long-term resilience to climate change. He highlighted the importance of smart energy solutions, such as renewable energy integration, energy-efficient HVAC systems, and intelligent building management systems, which optimize energy usage and reduce waste.

A key topic of discussion was the energy-carbon relationship, explaining how energy consumption directly affects carbon emissions. Gaspard elaborated on how reducing energy consumption through green building practices can significantly lower a company's carbon footprint. He also introduced the concept of Energy Efficiency and Carbon Audits, detailing how TERAO Asia helps businesses assess their energy performance, identify inefficiencies, and implement sustainable solutions to enhance overall environmental responsibility.

The session also showcased TERAO Asia’s recent projects in the Philippines, which focus on climate mitigation and adaptation. These projects demonstrate practical applications of sustainability strategies, such as retrofitting buildings for better energy performance, improving insulation, and incorporating eco-friendly construction materials. Additionally, the discussion covered ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria at the building level, addressing key factors that determine a building’s sustainability performance, including resource efficiency, waste management, and social impact considerations.

The meeting concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where attendees shared their own company initiatives and explored strategies for evaluating corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. The interactive discussion allowed participants to exchange knowledge on best practices, challenges, and future trends in sustainable building solutions.

This event provided businesses with valuable insights and actionable strategies for integrating green building practices into their operations. As NordCham Philippines continues to champion sustainability, we look forward to hosting more discussions that drive meaningful change and encourage businesses to embrace environmentally responsible solutions.
